Open Spaces Supervisor
Oberon Council Works Depot

Oberon Council is looking for an enthusiastic and hands-on Open Spaces Supervisor to take the lead in maintaining and enhancing our beautiful parks, gardens, and public spaces.

As our Open Spaces Supervisor, you'll play a key role in shaping the look and feel of Oberon's outdoor environments by overseeing the maintenance and operations of parks, gardens, playgrounds, sporting fields, recreational areas, cemeteries, town maintenance  and public amenities. This is more than a maintenance role - you'll help deliver spaces the community feels proud of.

In this role you will be

  • Leading and supervising a small team and coordinating additional crews when required
  • Planning and delivering maintenance programs across open space assets
  • Managing contractors and ensuring high-quality work outcomes
  • Supporting budget planning and project cost estimates
  • Driving safety, compliance, and continuous improvement in operations
  • Engaging with internal teams, contractors, and the community

We're looking for a confident, hands-on leader who is highly organised, practical, and able to manage multiple priorities. You'll bring strong problem-solving skills, a commitment to safety and best practice, and a genuine passion for delivering quality outcomes for the Oberon community.

About the role

  • Permanent full-time position working 38 hours per week
  • 6:54am – 4:00pm Monday to Friday
  • 9 day fortnight
  • $1,422.17 - $1,649.72 per week.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Certificate IV in Horticulture, Landscaping or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff, including the ability to provide direction, manage performance and resolve workplace issues or conflict appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise multiple tasks and projects, delegate appropriately, supervise staff effectively and apply proactive, resourceful and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience undertaking procurement activities, including obtaining quotations in accordance with Council's Procurement and Disposal Policy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to public safety, Work Health and Safety, and risk-based decision making.
  • Current chemical certification, or the ability to obtain certification prior to commencement.
  • Current Class C NSW Driver Licence.
  • SafeWork NSW Construction Induction Certificate (White Card), or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a Local Government works or open spaces environment.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, standards and best practice approaches, and their application to the role.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster, if required.
